ABOUT COPENHAGEN PHIL

Copenhagen Phil – Zealand’s Symphony Orchestra – is a regional orchestra consisting of approximately 65 musicians.

Much has happened since 1843, when the orchestra was founded in the Tivoli amusement park in the middle of Copenhagen as the Tivoli Orchestra. Today, we continue to divide the season between symphonic concerts in the concert hall at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (in Vilhelm Lauritzen’s historic ‘Radio House’), in Tivoli during the summer, as well as concerts throughout Zealand and Lolland/Falster during the winter season.

For Copenhagen Phil, it is crucial to anchor the music in both traditional and non-traditional settings – as well as to be innovative and create activities for audiences of all ages.

The concerts are ranging from classical concerts with prominent conductors and soloists, 60 minutes concerts where rhythmic artists meet the classical orchestra, popular New Year’s and Christmas concerts, Ouverture concerts where the audience is invited to walk around among the playing orchestra, special school concerts, concerts with Zealand music schools, Melodrama concerts where classical masterpieces are accompanied by spectacular video scenography, actors, and singers, as well as collaborations with other cultural institutions on dance/music/theatre performances, etc.
